    Help Save the Bengal Tiger!
Fondo de recogida en curso ...
The Bengal tiger, also known as the Royal Bengal tiger (Panthera tigris tigris or Panthera tigris bengalensis), is a subspecies of tiger found primarily in India and Bangladesh. Although it is one the largest and most numerous of the tiger sub-species, it is threatened by the destruction of its natural habitat and increasing interactions with humans. As such, they have become vulnerable to extinction, which is why the IUCN classifies it as an endangered species. Living in a variety of habitats, including grasslands, subtropical and tropical rain forests, scrub forests, wet and dry deciduous forests, and mangroves, the current population of wild Bengal tigers in the Indian subcontinent is now estimated to be between 1,300 and 1,500. However, over the past century, tiger numbers have fallen dramatically. Of eight sub-species alive in 1900, three are now extinct and we have lost over 90 per cent of wild tigers. In an effort to save Bengal tigers, The Wildlife Protection Society of India (WPSI), works with government enforcement agencies to apprehend tiger poachers and traders throughout the country. This includes efforts to investigate and verify any seizure of tiger parts and unnatural tiger deaths that are brought to their notice.

Explore history culture and in New Delhi
por Adline A. Ghani, Madre trabajadora y escritora independiente
New Delhi, the capital city of India, is situated within the metropolis of the ancient city of Delhi, which has served as the political and financial centre of several empires since at least the 6th century BC. During colonial rule, much of New Delhi was planned by British architects Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker. They sought to reflect Britain's imperial aspirations through the construction of monuments such as the India Gate, one of the largest war memorials in India, and the Rashtrapati Bhavan, currently the official residence of the President of India.

Besides masterpieces of colonial architecture, New Delhi also has many impressive historical and religious landmarks. One of the oldest structures in the city is the Qutb Minar, which was first constructed in 1193 and completed in 1386. Standing at 72.5 m it is also the world's tallest free standing brick minaret. Other notable historical sites include the tomb complex of the Mughal Emperor Humayun, which was built in 1560; and the Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in the Asia Pacific. Commissioned by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, it was completed in 1656.

New Delhi also boasts the striking Akshaydham Temple, the largest Hindu temple complex in the world; and the Lotus Temple, a magnificent house of worship built by the Bah' community. Those seeking respite from the hectic pace of the city often head to Lodhi Gardens, a 90 acre park that contains architectural works established in the 15th and 16th centuries by the Sayyid and Lodhi dynasties.

To house its wealth of heritage, New Delhi has quite a number of prestigious museums. These include: the National Museum of New Delhi, which houses over 2,000,000 artworks covering more than 5,000 years of Indian cultural heritage; the National Handicrafts and Handloom Museum, which celebrates indigenous Indian traditions; the Shankar's International Doll Museum, which houses one of the largest collections of costumed dolls in the world; and the Nehru Museum and Planetarium, the erstwhile residence of Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India.

As the country is famed for its handicrafts, New Delhi is a shopper's delight. Its most popular shopping areas include Janpath Road, a bustling market comprising of bazaars, shops and sidewalk vendors; the Central Cottage Industries Emporium; Palika Bazaar, which specialises in clothing and shoes; Connaught Place, for high-end shopping; and Delhi Haat, a craft haven representing each state of India that offers rosewood and sandalwood carvings, camel hide footwear, luxurious textiles, gems, beads and metal crafts.

For most international travellers, New Delhi's main gateway is the Indira Gandhi International Airport, situated in the southwestern corner of Delhi. It is one of the busiest airports in South Asia, catering to as many as 23 million passengers annually. Traffic in New Delhi is chaotic, but public transportation is available in the form of buses, auto rickshaws, taxis and a mass rapid transit system (Delhi Metro). New Delhi is also well connected to other cities via its railway system and expressways.

All foreign nationals visiting New Delhi, except citizens of neighbouring Nepal and Bhutan, must be in possession of a valid Indian Visa before they start their journey. The visa must be obtained beforehand as there's no provision for visas on arrival in India. Tourist visas are usually issued for six months, but, depending on your nationality, shorter and longer visas are also available. However, no matter what the duration of your tourist visa, visitors are only allowed to stay in India for not more than 6 months at a time.

The cost of an Indian tourist visa varies between countries according to the arrangement between governments. To make visa applications more convenient, the Indian Embassy has started outsourcing the application process, so now, other than applying directly to the Indian Embassy in your country, you can also apply online and through processing agencies.
