I went trough it and I can say, that it contains a lot of useful information for users. Many different things are explained, we learned from local people of Jogja.
[if I would go now, your guide help me a lot to know about things, that I learned from it]
About Kingdom palace, it's worth to pay for guide, because he told us different interesting information about imperator family and history of 10 kings. Just walk trough Kingdom palace is not too attractive, but when it is accompanied by interesting stories [then it's more exciting].
About beach I recommend to come at 3 or 3.30 and walk down the beach closer to small mountains, then approximately at 5 [when it's very close to Sunset] turn back and enjoy great sunset [it's 5.30].
For Airlines, I think that mostly international visitors arrive to Jogja from Jakarta or Denpasar. Garuda Indonesia provides with great service, but probably it's a bit more expensive. If no extra is required Mandala airlines is great opportunity.
We lived in Meliya Pourasani, great and lovely hotel [it's not so expensive, but service is outstanding] ! You can ask reception room on North side, then every morning it's possible to see volcano with fumes.
Bargaining, usually as foreign tourist you have to consider to bargain 50% of the price, that is offered by seller. |

| An introduction to Yogyakarta |
|
| By Adline A. Ghani, working mum & freelance writer |
|
|

Yogyakarta, also known as Jogjakarta, is a major tourist destination situated in the heartland of Java. Affectionately called Yogya or Jogja, it is accessible by bus, train and plane, with regular services from Jakarta, Surabaya and Bali. Its principal airport is Adisucipto International Airport, located just 8 kilometres east of town.
Kota Yogya, or Yogya city, is one of the oldest cities in Indonesia. Once there, you can rely on local taxis, which are metered and generally trustworthy. However, if you prefer ecologically-friendly transport, there are horse-drawn carts called andong or dokar and rickshaws. You might, however, want to haggle furiously with the rickshaw drivers.
Yogya is also the only Indonesian province that is still formally governed by a pre-colonial Sultanate. As such, its key attraction is the Kraton or Sultan's Palace. The sprawling complex, built in the 18th century, remains the official residence of the Sultan and features luxurious pavilions and lush grounds that hearken to its glorious past.
Another major draw in Yogya is the Borobodur candi or temple. Built in the 9th century, the structure is the largest Buddhist monument in the world. It is a 40-minute drive from town and is accessibly by tour buses that begin operations as early as 5:00 a.m.
While these historical sites offer calm and elegance, head on to Malioboro Street in Yogya city for some excitement. This lively shopping promenade and tourist magnet has much to offer. The weary and hungry may choose from countless hawker stalls, eateries and fine-dining restaurants. Feast on local delicacies like gudeg, a jackfruit curry and rujak es krim, tropical fruit salad with ice cream. For a place to stay, choose from budget, mid-range or 5-star accommodations. Most hotels provide wireless internet access, and internet cafes are not hard to find.
Yogya may be one of the smallest provinces in Indonesia, but it is internationally renowned as a centre of arts and culture. Fine arts such as classical theatre, gamelan music, batik, wayang kulit (shadow puppetry) and poetry arose out of the refined interiors of the Kraton and continue to develop with increased sophistication.
Yogya has also proven to be fertile ground for contemporary arts, with the founding of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta, which teaches visual, performing and media arts. Yogya also boasts Universitas Gadjah Mada, the oldest university in Indonesia and one of the largest universities in Southeast Asia, making it a major centre of higher education in the region.
A number of museums and galleries dot the city, including the Sultan's Carriage Museum and the Saptohoedojo Art Gallery, a vast complex housing the best of Indonesian crafts, from batik shirts to tribal masks. Handicrafts like kris, textiles and silverware can also be found at Tjokrosuharto, a store that was first opened in1954. Also available in Yogya are traditional markets such as Pasar Beringharjo and Pasar Kranggan, as well as stylish malls choc-full of the latest trends.
Nature-lovers need not be disappointed, as Yogya abounds with natural beauty. It owes its incredibly fertile soil to its proximity to the active volcano Mount Merapi. Fruit orchards, like the Turi Agro Tourism centre, are great for families. The 27 hectare garden is dedicated to the salak, a sweetly-acidic fruit and the ample grounds contain a fish pond, playground and swimming pool. In the southern parts of Yogyakarta, you'll find endless beaches, which prove that although Yogya is one of the most densely populated areas in Indonesia, one can still find peace, quiet and relaxation.
Visas to Yogya can be obtained by post or in person at Indonesian embassies or consulates. Some visitors have the option of getting their Visas upon arrival. The fee will depend on the type of Visa, but a single-entry Visa on arrival will generally cost around USD25 for 30 days and USD10 for 7 days. Visitors from Brunei, | | | | | | | |
