| Condors belong to the Cathartidae family which also has falcons, hawks and eagles as members of its family. Condors feed on carcasses and they prefer the bigger ones such as deer and cattle. The have a long lifespan of an estimated 50 years, and a condor in captivity once lived to the ripe old age of 77 years!
Condors have large broad wings and a frill of white feathers around their necks. These feathers are a few due hygiene purposes, which the birds also meticulously keep clean. The lack of feathers expose the birds to solar ultra-violet rays and dehydration. Another unique characteristic of the condors are their elongated middle toe. The condors are able to withstand food for a couple of days, before gorging themselves even to the extent of not being able to fly off from the ground. |

| Going to Great Guangzhou |

Guangzhou was formerly known as Canton City and thus, is often incorrectly referred to by its provincial name, Canton. The city China's third largest urban area and is the most populous city in the province.
Guangzhou's most famous landmark is the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall. Built on the site of his residence when he was the provisional President of China, the memorial hall was constructed on donation from the people of Guangzhou and the Chinese overseas. The hall is now also used as a venue for performances and large-scale meetings and at the entrance a board bearing words of wisdom written by Sun Yat-Sen himself.
'White clouds' and 'pearl sea' are commonly used to refer to Guangzhou. These actually refer to the famous White Cloud Hills. Comprising more than 30 hills and peaks, the hill earns its name from the scene in autumn when a stream of clouds surround the peaks, creating a spectacular magical scene. You could take a cable car up the hills to slowly take in the splendid sights.
The Temple of the Six Banyan Trees is an extremely popular place, though how the temple got its name isn't clear. The temple houses Guangzhou's largest Buddha copper statue and the Flower Pagoda which is known for its beautiful exterior carvings. There is also another temple which has an equally unique name, the Bright Filial Piety Temple. It is particularly significant to Buddhists because many famous monks had come to preach religious doctrines in the past, making the temple special compared to the rest.
The Ancestral Temple of the Chen Family is not only a temple but it is also a local handicraft museum. Displays of craftsmanship using natural materials and metalwork are on display. The Chen clan from all over the Guangdong province built this temple to commemorate their ancestors. They also converge here for accommodation whenever they come to the vicinity for imperial examinations. Visitors will be impressed with the fine and intricate handwork that adorn and decorate the temple grounds.
The White Cloud Hills aren't Guangzhou's only natural beauty. The Yuexiu Park is Guangzhou's largest park and is more known for its beauty and historical relics on its grounds. Located just nearby the Yuexiu mountains, the park houses the Square Cannon Site, the Ming Dynasty City Wall, the Five-Ram Sculpture and the Zhenhai Tower. The tour of Guangzhou isn't complete yet until you take a relaxing boat tour on the river to see the night view of the city.
Last but not least is the visit to the Chimelong Holiday Resort. A place for the whole family or a gang of fun-seeking friends, it is touted to be a tourists' kingdom that brings happiness to the world. What is in there, you wonder? There are theme parks that cater to varied levels of daringness. Truly a place to have fun with joy and laughter and not to mention, screams!
Guangzhou is known primarily for 3 specialty dishes: the whole roast suckling pig, white cut chicken and Eight Bao Chinese wintermelon. The first dish, similar to what you can find at Chinese dinners, has 2 roasting methods. The first uses a little oil to smoothen the skin while the second method makes sure that oil is spread on the chicken continuously to melt the skin. The white cut chicken is an extremely yet tasty dish of boiled chicken eaten with peanut oil, ginger and green onions. The last dish with a unique name, is actually an assortment of ingredients such as ham, crab meat, pork, turkey, frog meat and oysters stuffed inside a winter melon bowl. Lovely on the eyes and delicious on the palate, this dish is surely one to try in Guangzhou.
